On Oct. 27th, the Centre for Smart Transportation hosted a delegation from Shanghai, and on Nov. 2, 2016, hosted delegations from Alberta Transportation, Tennessee and Banff. The delegations were given a tour of the lab and an on-road demonstration of some connected vehicle applications.
To reduce congestion, enhance mobility, reduce collisions and improve safety, transportation management agencies across the world are developing and implementing various ITS strategies. Connected Vehicle technology is an exciting development within ITS that enables vehicles to communicate critical, potentially life-saving, real-time information with other vehicles and surrounding infrastructure via wired and wireless networks. Dr. Qiu is currently directing development on the Edmonton portion of the ACTIVE-AURORA Connected Vehicle Test Bed, the first of its kind in Canada.
